Alexander McQueen commits suicide at age 40

First of all, I know I'm a terrible blogger and I've kind of been on hiatus juggling up whether or not I should even continue to run this blog BUT I just had to post something this.

I think everyone who has ever cared about fashion is in total shock right now over the death of McQueen. I feel like he was the PEAK of his career, everyone who knew anything about fashion was talking about his designs. GAH!! It's just such a shame and a huge loss to the fashion world.

What's even stranger is I just finished writing an essay about how individual and revolutionary his designs are for one of my design school applications and had a whole conversation with the supervisor about it. I couldn't wait to see what he did next and his Spring RTW was SO good. What a shame.. here are some of my favourites from his last show:

MERRY FUCKING CHRISTMAS!

This Christmas has been one of the best yet. Good food, good people and good presents. As always it was stinking hot here in Australia (I still long for a white Christmas) but there's always air conditioning and I can't help but be filled with Christmas spirit. Also I finally had an excuse to wear my red Dorothy shoes that I bought in Japan. GAH I love them.

Anyway, MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Bedrock

I. Love. Japan.

You may have of heard of Bedrock through Sea of Shoes (I know I did) but if you haven't all you really need to know is that it is the most AMAZING store EVER. First of all they don't advertise, have a shop front or even have a sign. To get in you have to walk through a tiny cafe named The Forbidden Fruit Cafe, located in Omotosando Hills, and down a back set of stairs. It should be noted that the cafe itself is pretty cool, the offer some great juices. Anyway, once you get down to the boutique you immediately realize what all the hype is about. The interior is just amazing, whoever designed it is a genius. The clothes themselves are beautiful and their collection of vintage shoes are to die for. I think I could spend hours in there and not get bored. Below are a few pics I managed to snap, the quality is pretty poor because I wasn't sure if you were allowed to take photos or not. (A.K.A. I have a strong feeling you weren't... but no one directly told me not to... so I did.)

Takeshita Dori

Kris and I are already pretty familiar with Harajuku so it was fun to be able to go back and explore a lot of the lesser known places and back streets. If you look a little harder you'll find great restraunts, vintage stores dedicated entirely to Vivienne Westwood, hilariously small apartments to rent, insanely stylish hair salons, tattoo parlours and more...

On the other hand it was also great to visit some of our old favourites like BodyLine, a store that specialises specifically in the whole Gothic Lolita look:

All the dresses are unbelievably well made and most are around $40AUD. Although I'm no goth, it's always fun to take something and make it your own. I bought a cute little floral dress and a pair of awesome pink Doc Marten-esk boots, which will probably be featured many times over the next few months.

In between shops we snacked on the old favourites, melon soda and crepe (kiwi fruit + cream + ice cream = heaven). If you haven't tried a Melon Soda you haven't lived! Haha no seriously, Melon Soda is my god. You should be able to find it in most Asian grocery stores.

While wandering the back streets we came across a really tiny, cute, funky salon and decided to make an appointment for a few days later. I was pretty inspired by the crazy Harajuku fashion and decided that I wanted to dye my hair bright blue. They tried, they really tried, but my black hair just wouldn't budge and eventually I ended up with a blue / blonde/ grey hybrid. I got over it pretty quickly and decided to rock it until I could go home and fix it.

Besides my hair failure the whole hair salon experience was HELLA AWESOME. The people there where unbelievably nice about everything and they had two bulldogs that roamed the store and sat on you while you had your hair done. I fell in LOVE with them, by the end of it I was ready to take one home with me. Also (like everywhere else in Japan) you can smoke! Smoking and getting your head massaged is a winning combination.

In the end Harajuku didn't disappoint. I think I could live there for a whole year and still be entertained by the crazy street style, shopping and overall atmosphere... have I mentioned that I LOVE JAPAN!?

Back to Japan Land!!!

Absolutely THRILLED to be back in Japan! I could go back to Tokyo every year for the rest of my life! We arrived at our amazing hotel, the Shibuya Excel, exhausted at around 9.30 at night. Checked into our room on the 23rd floor and ventured out into Shibuya to grab a quick dinner, before returning to the room and passing out from exhaustion haha. Below are a few misc. photos from my first night, including the view from our room.

Spooky Scary

With my little brother's birthday party, my 18th and multiple assignments due I was happy to spend Halloween having a quiet dinner party at home. We sang "Werewolf Bar mitzvah", gave out candy to the neighbourhood kids and ate a Halloween feast! I was too lazy to dress up so I threw on a feather and called myself an Indian, while my little bro-ham rocked a super bad ass robot suit.

Shade & Tea

Basically spent the whole of today planning my little bro-hams Halloween party, playing with bubbles, eating cupcakes and sipping tea. Today was so hot I ended up sitting outside in the shade under the jacarandas, surrounded by bees. Is it weird that a $2 pack of bubbles still has the ability to entertain me for hours?

Thirty-One

A Very Merry Un-Birthday

Last night Kris gave me the most AMAZING birthday present (actually my birthday isn't for another month.. but we're both pretty shit at keeping secrets so we figured we'd just hurry things along) It's an original 1930's cigarette case, complete with marbled sides and horse detailing! A very merry unbirthday to me!

In other news, it's only spring here and already the temp is reaching 30 degrees / 86 farenheit / so hot I could cry... I can already tell that my summers will be spent laying in the backyard drinking cocktails and playing with the pups Charlie and Nibbles.

...or possibly inside in the air conditioning watching 30 Rock...either way... the point is I won't be moving much this Summer.

Tough call, I know, seeing as there are so many fabulous people posted each week but there's something so sweet and simple about her outfit and the way she's posed. The Ekka

Yesterday I went with Kris and her two younger siblings to the Brisbane Show, which in all honesty is probably my favourite part about living in (or near) Brisbane. Anything that involves skipping university to spend all day and all night being flung in the air by rides, playing with the animals and stuffing my face full of food is sure to be good. We went on the Crazy Coaster, Zipper, XXL swing & Ferris wheel; Pet the horses, llamas, cats, dogs, cows and geese; Ate German hot dogs, strawberry ice creams, toffy apples and real lemonade. I also got my face painted as a strange bunny rabbit, won a flashing ring on the clowns and smoked colored cigarettes all day. As usual here are some pictures from various parts of the day(if you look closely on the ride pictures you can see me purple legs flinging in the air besides Kristen's brother hehe)

Okay so admittedly this post is less about Amy Adams herself and more about her character Delysia LeFosse from the charming movie Miss Pettigrew Lives For A Day. Although i've always been a big fan of Amy Adams, i'm an even bigger fan of Delysia's wardrobe and AMAZING flat. Sydney Times!

Just came home from spending the weekend in Sydney to celebrate university holidays (5 week freedom = a very happy me) and coming home really made me realize just how much I hate living on the Gold Coast. Basically all I did in Sydney was shop and eat and smoke and sleep... so it was pretty fucking awesome haha.

I would probably sell my first born for this vintage feather dress from Grandma Takes Trip.

Art and Film

Spent today lunching and shopping (end of financial year sales are dangerous) and ended up passing through both the Regent Cinemas and the Queensland Art Gallery but didn't have enough time to enjoy either of them. 'American Impressionism and Realism' is the galleries current exhibition , all the pieces are lent out by the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and I was supposed to be going with my art history class but decided that I would much rather explore the gallery independantly... however i'm a lazy sod with poor time management skills whos till hasn't gotten around to it. I'm also trying to get around to seeing Sunshine Cleaning (Amy Adams looove) at the Regent Cinema, the foyer and cinemas are AMAZING, going to the movies has never been so interesting. Anyway here are some not very interesting photos:

Funhouse

I forgot how fun going to the park can be. When I was young I used to spend entire days taking the dogs for a walk, playing in the park and riding my bike. A State of Emergency

Here on the Gold Coast (i've provided a link for 99.9% of people who have no idea what / where i'm talking about) it has been announced that our 'city' is currently in a 'state of emergency' due to the heavy rainfall and strong winds. What ordinary people would classify as a windy winter weekend has been declared an emergency here in Australia. Anyway the point is that FINALLY it is cool enough for me to wear coats, jumpers, tights etc. Today was the perfect rainy day for a movie marathon, despite the fact that I resemble an oompa loompa and am having a hideous hair day.

I am a long time, crazy big Angelina fan and although I miss the good old recently sexed, knife collecting, vampiric Angelina, she's currently blowing me away with her new found appreciation for glamour. Sure sure a fashion reformed Angie is old news now (thanks to a celebrity stylist and a year long binding contract with St. John) but i'm hoping this year she'll really step up her game. I thought she looked phenomenal and I especially loved the gigantic split up the side of the dress, reminiscent of the wild days.

Ah, who am i kidding i'd take a leather clad, brother kissing Ange over the newly constructed glamourpuss any day. She was exciting, crazy and completely unpredictable... what more could a celeb addict like myself ask for?

Wonderland

I spent today exploring Brisbane with Kristen, Pallen and my little brother Cahn. Visits to the GOMA, science museum, natural history museum and Buddha's birthday celebration = the best imitation tourist day ever. Today's snack of choice was Dip'n'Dots, which never fail to impress.

The hightlights of Japan

Shopping: My favourite place in the world to shop! Whether i'm in Tokyo in giant department stores splurging on Anna Sui or buying traditional ornaments from the street stalls of Takayama, my inner shopaholic is eternally satisfied.

Food: Sweet baby jesus nobody knows how to eat like the Japanese. Udon, tempura soba, sashimi or katsudon with melon soda, calpis or oolong tea followed by a strawberries & cream crepe, parfait, coffee jelly starbucks frappuccino or even a real gold covered cake.

Places: The obvious- Harajuku, Shibuya, Tokyo Disneyland, Miyajima Island and Kinkaku-ji. The not so obvious- Kyoto train station for its great shopping, Kanazawa fish markets for sea urchin, fresh salmon and fresh flowers and Kanazawa Ninjadera (ninja temple).

Japan!

Every trip to Japan is better than the last! I intend to go back again during December with Kris (i'm wanting to spend Christmas day at Disneyland). Anyhooo, this trip included visits to Tokyo, Takayama, Fukuoka, Kyoto, Kanazawa and Hiroshima. Good food, good shopping, good people equals a good time. :)

Tambourine Mountain

Just came back from spending a relaxing weekend up on Tambourine Mountain with Kristen involving many a cup of tea and lemon sherbert. As we walked home from having breakfast we could see the browning leaves of Autumn falling ontop of the little cottages on the mountain.

HAPPY EASTER!
My tummy is happy with all of the easter treats it's being fed. I think what makes Easter so great is that it doesn't have the same kind of pressure that other holidays have. It's always the most relaxed of the holidays and needs little preparation... plus you get the most candy and can play around with eye popping bright colors.
